Membership<\/strong><\/p>

Yearly Basic<\/em> Memberships for $35.00.\u00a0<\/p>

Memberships last for a year, and starting in August, 2024, the date to renew your membership is the anniversary date of your original membership.\u00a0 You will receive email reminders when your membership renewal is due.\u00a0<\/p>

Yearly Super<\/em> membership for $50.00 \u2013 an additional $15.00 on your basic membership.\u00a0<\/p>

Super Membership allows you to go to events at affiliated seniors\u2019 activity centers in Calgary as if you are a member at that center.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

Current affiliated groups include (not an exhaustive list): Bow Cliff Seniors, Calgary 55+ Games Association, Confederation Park 55+ Activity Centre, Good Companions, Greater Forest Lawn 55+, Kensington Legion, Ogden 50+ Activity Centre, Parkdale Nifty Fifties Seniors Association, Rainbow Elders, Seniors Acting Lab Society, SW 55+ Connect, Unison at Kerby Centre (Calgary), West Hillhurst Go-Getters Association.<\/p>

History<\/H1><\/div> \t\t

Bowness Seniors\u2019 Centre is a dynamic organization, responding to the needs of seniors and retirees in the community of Bowness since 1961. Originally meeting in people\u2019s homes and the Community Centre (currently the Irish Cultural Association building).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

The current Bowness Seniors\u2019 Centre developed and grew over the years.<\/p>

Originally, it was called the Golden Age Branch #6.\u00a0 As this organization grew, the dynamic seniors applied for and received grants from all levels of government as part of the Centennial Celebration in 1967.\u00a0 Supported by donations from individuals & the Bowness Lions Club, a Centre for the Seniors of Bowness was built.\u00a0 As the building was established, the Bowness Seniors Club was registered under the Societies Act in 1966.<\/p>

Over time, and as the membership grew, the original building was unable to serve all the needs of the members and the community.\u00a0 The building was renovated, updated, and additions were built. The biggest addition was as a Millennium Project in 2000.\u00a0 At that time the size of the building was almost doubled with the addition of the McIntosh Hall and a change in name to the Bowness Seniors\u2019 Centre.<\/p>

Conversion of the unused tennis courts to the parking lot was completed in 2016.<\/p>

Currently we have 286 Active basic members and 45 super members (who have access to multiple 55+ activity centers throughout Calgary)<\/p>

The Bowness Seniors\u2019 Centre serves a population of 50 years of age and above, and although a majority are from Bowness and Montgomery communities, we have members from other communities in the northwest and southwest of Calgary.<\/p>

The Bowness Seniors\u2019 Centre thrives through volunteerism.\u00a0 We utilize a very small paid staff and a majority of our organization is powered by our volunteers, whether doing a stint at a casino for fundraising, making the dinner for the Dinner\/Dances, writing and proofing grant requests, cleaning up and washing dishes after a function, baking wonderfully tasty baked goods for baking sales to calling members on their birthday, we value and acknowledge all the hard work completed by our volunteers.\u00a0<\/p><\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \n \t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
